Sometimes our problems and challenges in life become so heavy or complex that we intuitively know that we should not simply try to solve them alone. My goal is to provide a safe and confidential place for people to work through their challenges. Beyond my rigorous clinical training program, and honing my clinical skills over the years, I integrate into my work aspects of my life experience beyond my psychological training.
My fluency in Spanish and along with my familiarity with the Latino culture has added to my personal trait of being able to see a set of circumstances through a completely different lens.

I work with couples, families, individuals and adolescents experiencing life challenges and draw upon a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful to you.
Are you questioning whether you should continue in your current relationship or separate? Discernment counseling involves helping you both decide whether to work on your relationship or to move toward separation. We focus on what each of you needs for a satisfying relationship and also what may be involved in separating.
If you and your significant other are committed to making your relationship better, Gottman Couples Therapy strengthens the relationship by improving conflict management, communication, friendship, emotional connection, and intimacy. We will also work on repairing past hurts, getting to know each other again, staying positive and creating shared meaning and dreams for your future together. This style of counseling is based on research on what makes relationships last. It is geared toward figuring out the roadblocks in your relationship, and then practicing strategies that you can use over a lifetime to smooth them out.
Have you already decided to end the relationship but want help doing so? If in the course of discernment counseling or couples’ therapy you decide there are incompatibilities, as a trained Mediator, we can work together toward an amicable separation.
Are you concerned about the effect your relationship is having on other family members? I use family therapy techniques to help adolescents and teens, who may be affected by the couple’s changing relationship.
Are you having difficulty with disturbing memories of a traumatic event? Are you experiencing chronic pain or have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? I use Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you work through post-traumatic stress and to help alleviate chronic pain issues.
Have you been feeling depressed or anxious? Having been a researcher on the REVAMP depression study and Harvard-Brown Anxiety Research Project, I have experience with individuals managing these issues. Using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, we work together to understand what the causes are and develop practical tools and solutions that you can use for a lifetime.
